Quickfire Questions: Sage Koi.
Hailing from Atlanta, Sage Koi is the talented artist behind new single “EAT PRAY LOVE!”, following on from his first project - “Collections”, back in 2018. The production on Collections was so impressive for a debut release and it’s clear Sage Koi has an abundance of talent. Sage Koi takes inspiration from Hip Hop & RnB but pulls ideas from plenty of other genres giving his tracks a unique and enjoyable sound. We caught up with Sage Koi to discuss his new single, what’s next for him as well as our Quickfire Questions.
Atlanta has such a diverse history of sounds from all genres, did that inspire you to start making music?
I think for me it really came from watching my dad as I was growing up. He was always performing and making music so it was just something that I was always around. I remember as a kid I used to do my homework and read books in the studio while he was having a session.
Leading on from that, what music did you grow up with and did it influence the way you make music now?
Yeah definitely, I grew up mostly around Hip Hop and RnB music in my house so that was really all I would listen to for a while. I think it was games like guitar hero and rock band that really opened my mind up to listening to other genres like rock music, and then from there I was just a lot more open-minded when it came to the kinds of music I'd listen to.
Apart from other musicians, what influences your music sonically?
Movies are a big one for me. When I was making Collections I would have Bladerunner 2049 playing on repeat with the volume off so I could use it as inspiration. I wanted that album to sound like something that would be released in that universe.
We made your new track "EAT PRAY LOVE!" our Track Of The Day recently because we couldn't get enough of it. Can you tell us about it and how it became the first track to be released following your 2018 release "Collections"?
Yeah, I actually made that song while I was eating dinner one day. I just remember the food being really good and being like "I want to eat like this every day" haha. It actually came together pretty fast compared to my other music, it usually takes me a while to write lyrics but that time it just came to me almost immediately.
What do we have to look forward to from you following the release of "EAT PRAY LOVE!"?
More singles! This year I'm really focused on growing so you can expect a lot more music and visuals. I don't have an album planned at the moment but maybe that'll be next year's project.
