Quickfire Questions: Mollie Coddled.
Mollie Coddled is a self-produced Dreampop artist based in Leeds, UK. Mollie records and produces her songs in her bedroom, bringing an intimate, Lo-Fi feel, pairing soft, soulful vocals with a soundscape of hazy, echo-laden guitars and synthesizers.
Discussing topics of abusive relationships and mental health throughout her repertoire, Mollie brings the voice of the new generation to the table.
We caught up with her to discuss her songwriting along with some of our Quickfire Questions.
Hey Mollie Coddled! We discovered you through our love of the Leeds music scene. It doesn’t seem like there is ever a shortage of shows to go to in Leeds. How strange has it been not being able to play or go to shows for the majority of this year?
It's really strange not being able to play shows because it was becoming such a big part of my life just before Lockdown happened. But on the other hand, I’ve also missed out on seeing loads of my favourite artists like Dayglow and Peach Pit which is a shame.
Does it help to have so many talented up and coming bands and artists in one area or is it just more competition?
I think Leeds music scene is absolutely thriving, full of great new music but fortunately for me, there aren’t many bedroom pop artists, so I don’t have too much competition and those who are my competition are my mates, so life is good!
What influences your music sonically?
My music production definitely has a lot of different influences but it's inspired mainly by music I personally listen to really so a lot of the bedroom pop genre but it changes with every song, sonically.
What is your usual songwriting process?
My process differs every time I write, but I find my best songs always come out of very intense emotion.
Songwriting for me is more of an output of emotion than anything else so I just write about what I'm feeling in the moment but nothing is ever planned, it’s all improvisation (I’m terrible at theory haha).
We’re absolutely loving ‘Rotten Teeth’ and recently had it as our Track Of The Day! What can we expect in the future from you?
Thank you so much! I have a new song coming out on August 14th which is a bit different (in a good way) to the songs I have out at the moment. Definitely one to dance to. I also may have an EP (exclusive info here, haha) coming soon after; so keep your eyes peeled for that!

I’ve recently been spending a lot of time reading books on spirituality which is something I have become more aware of and intrigued about over the last few months of being stuck in my room haha.
